Welcome!

Midwives view pregnancy and childbirth as a profound time in a person’s life, with a variety of personal and cultural meanings. They see themselves as partners in their clients’ care and recognize clients as the primary decision-makers. Ontario’s midwifery model of care is based on three principles: continuity of care; informed choice and choice of birthplace  –  Association of Ontario Midwives

Up and running at the new clinic

It’s our first week at the new clinic, and we are gradually getting used to the space.  We are very pleased to have more clinic rooms and bathrooms, and appreciate our clients’ gracious understanding of some areas that are still “under construction”.  Happy holidays to everyone from all of us!

We are moving in December 2014

Our new clinic will still be located at Port Union and Kingston Road, in the Rylander Plaza; address and directions will be updated once we are start doing clinic appointments in our new, bigger and better space.  Unfortunately, this means we will no longer be offering appointments at the current Ajax site after December.  We apologize for any inconvenience this causes to our clients, but we cannot continue to support two clinics at this time.  More info on the move to follow in future updates. UPDATE:  Opening date at the new place is December 22!

Did you know?

The word midwife comes from Anglo-Saxon words:  mid = with and wif = woman.  Midwife means someone who is with the woman in her labour.  In French, a midwife is a sage-femme, which means a wise woman providing care.

Thank you to all those who came to the potluck today

Thank you for coming out in the rain to socialize and share food!  We admit it was a bit crowded in the clinic, but so lovely to see those families who turned up.  Our annual picnic potluck is a highlight for us as we have the pleasure of seeing  the babies we catch growing into toddlers… and beyond.  Next year will be the 10th anniversary of Sages-Femmes Rouge Valley Midwives and plans are already in the works for our biggest celebration so far.  Some photos from the day:
